Manuscript and printed papers of clubs and societies based in China and Hong Kong or having a connection to the region. A few items are in Portuguese.

Manuscripts/MS JM/L6 contains:
1 Papers of the Hong Kong Club. Manuscript papers relating to the establishment of the Hong Kong Club, including sets of draft rules, a mortgage, memoranda on the club verandah, and a deed of settlement. There are also rules of the Australia Club (established 1838), Byculla Club (Bombay) and Madras Club.

2 Minutes of Club Macaense. Two manuscript copies of minutes (in Portuguese) of a meeting held on 25 March 1862 in relation to the establishment of 'Club Macaense' in Hong Kong, made by the secretary, J. Costa, Hong Kong, 26 March 1862.

3 Minutes of Club Portuguez. Minutes of meetings of members of Club Portuguez held in Hong Kong, with a few related papers. The documents are in Portuguese.

4 Papers of the China Association. Correspondence and papers of and regarding the China Association, mainly concerning rules and meetings. The correspondence covers 1889-1890, and includes one press copy. Many of the letters are addressed to William Keswick. The other correspondents are F.D. Barnes; Sir Alfred Dent; R.S. Gundry; Harwood & Stephenson, solicitors; E. Flint Kirby, Alfred Rowe; Sir Thomas H. Saunderson; W.M. Strachan; and Thomas Wade. The remaining papers are comprised of a circular letter from Alfred Dent, London, 19 March 1889, soliciting support for a proposed China Association; two copies of a printed booklet of the Association's 'Objects, Rules and Regulations', published by Harwood & Stephenson, 1889; a printed pamphlet listing the Association's leadership and members, 1889; the agenda for the committee meeting on 16 May 1889, with a list of committee members; the first annual report, 13 February 1890; a circular letter from R.S. Gundry, Honorary Secretary, 18 February 1890, advertising the Annual General Meeting and Annual Dinner on 5 March; a printed report of the Hongkong Branch of the Navy League for the year ending 30 September 1896, recording the formation of a branch of the Navy League in Hong Kong by the China Association; an undated manuscript note of the members of the executive; and an undated bill for the Association's dinners from Dent Bros & Co., London.

Printed reports and other papers of the Hongkong Club: 5th Annual Report, 21 March 1891; 6th Annual Report, 6 April 1892; report on a proposed new club building, 12 October 1893, including a map showing the site; circular announcing an extraordinary general meeting on 29 August 1895 to consider alterations to the Articles of Association, including the text of the proposed alterations; minutes of the aforementioned meeting, 26 September 1895; and 10th Annual Report, 20 April 1896.
