Jardine Matheson Archive

Copies of correspondence between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and Messrs W.R. Scott & Co., Singapore, regarding the Rawang Tin Mining Company Ltd. The correspondence is in two parts. The first part consists of manuscript and press copies of correspondence between W.R. Scott & Co. and Jardine Matheson, 5 March 1889-8 May 1889, regarding the Rawang Tin Mining Concession. This includes a cutting of an article from the 'Straits Times', 9 April 1889, which is mentioned in Jardine, Matheson & Co.'s letter of 26 April. The second part of the correspondence is comprised of manuscript and press copies of correspondence of 8 May-15 October 1899 between Jardine, Matheson & Co.; W.R. Scott & Co.; J.W. French, Singapore; William Keswick, London; and J.S. Thomson, Singapore. This includes copies of telegrams from Jardine, Matheson & Co.; W.R. Scott & Co.; William Keswick; the British Resident, Selangor; and the Colonial Secretary, Singapore. There is also a manuscript copy of the grant of a mining concession in the State of Selangor from William Paterson of Shanghai to the Rawang Tin Mining Company Ltd, 6 September 1887. The original envelope (which has been retained) is numbered 32, and is labelled '1889: Rawang Tin Mining Company'.
