The principal author is W.H. Smith & Son, New York. There is also an abstract of a letter from Theodore F. Lewis, New York, [to Augustine Heard & Co.] of 14 July 1868, and an order from Richard Briggs, Boston, to Augustine Heard & Co., Boston, 8 January 1868. One of the letters is incomplete.

The correspondents include Augustine Heard & Co., Shanghai and Yokohama; R.S. Butterfield, Bradford; Butterfield & Swire, Shanghai; Butterfield Bros, Bradford; George Basil Dixwell, C.E. Endicott and Robert I. Fearon (of Augustine Heard & Co., Shanghai); John A. Fraser, Yokohama; A.O. Gay (agent for Augustine Heard & Co., Yokohama); Augustine Heard Jr., Dieppe, London and Paris; A.F.
