Content and context

Copies (mostly press copies) of 'Private notes + letters to Sundry Parties', comprised of letters from Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, to correspondents in China and occasionally other places. The letters are dated c. 1849-c.1857, and are accompanied by a wrapper which is dated 1860. A few are from partners, including David Jardine. The addressees include B.A. Barretto, Charles Spencer Compton, Captain Crawford, Alexander Grant Dallas, David Jardine, Captain Robert McMurdo, Captain Miller, Alexander Perceval and Captain Sullivan.
