Reference MS JM/A
Covering Dates 1798–1941 (with some photocopies made in 1983)
Extent and Medium circa 13 cubic metres
Content and context

This series contains the accounting records of Jardine Matheson and associated firms. There are ledgers, journals and account books, including those of subsidiary companies, such as insurance companies; accounts for opium, tea and silk; freight books; lists of cargoes; manifests; diaries; and other papers. The series is divided into two main sections. The first section, A1-A6, contains the principal accounting records of Jardine Matheson, including the records of Magniac & Co. and its predecessors. The second section, A7-A8, contains miscellaneous material not relating directly to the main series.

The arrangement of this series was established between 1935, when the collection was deposited, and 1957, when Miss N.M. Bartlett ceased work on the papers.
