Copies of two covering letters from Jardine, Matheson & Co. to Captain Charles Elliot R.N., Chief Superintendent of the Trade of British Subjects in China: Canton, 24 May 1839, enclosing statements of debts due to the company from Chinese merchants and of property left in China; and Macao, 15 August 1839, enclosing a statement of property lost in Canton. The copies are witnessed by Charles Stewart, Assistant Secretary and Treasurer. The documents that are referred to are not included.
