Will Carter

This series includes chiefly drawings and correspondence relating to Will Carter's letter cutting, but also covers some inscriptions designed by him whose realization (whether by him or not, and whether cut or painted) is not recorded. The title of the item is the name of one or more projects.

Inscriptions cut in wood. Correspondence with customers, 1945-1948. Correspondents include: Godfrey Carter, John Carter, E. J. Cooper, Phillippa Heywood, Mary Isabel Know, Margaret Leask, S. Lydall, Yvonne McHarg, Diana Murray, Betty C. Thomson. Arranged alphabetically. Rubbings taken from wood, mostly breadboards with inscriptions around the circumference, 1938-1960 and undated. The inscriptions also include a breadboard for John Dreyfus and an alphabet for Philip Hofer. Photographs of inscriptions; layout of an advertising circular; tear-sheet from Harper's Bazaar, 1948, mentioning Carter's breadboards.
