Reporting battle two days ago [Inkerman], heroism of the French, terrible carnage, "but by the goodness of God who knows that we fight in a righteous cause, the day remained with us. My Regt, in fact none of the Highland Brigade were engaged, but a time will come for us to avenge the deaths of so many of our gallant countrymen".
