Content and context

The volume begins with the party commencing an expedition at Kamschtaka on 19 August 1882 and concludes at Petropaulsky, Kamschtaka, on 23 September 1882. There are additional notes in an inside pocket of the notebook, including measurements of thirteen bulls shot by the crew on 22 September 1882. Loose inside the volume is a press cutting describing the seizure in May [1883] of the English sailing ship 'Otome' from Yokohama by Russian officers off Bering Island.
