The volume begins at Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka, on 19 May 1882 and concludes with Guillemard's arrival at Yokohama, Japan, on 4 July 1882. The first page of the volume contains a list of letters addressed by Guillemard at the following places (the dates are not given): Hakone, Yokohama and Hakodadi. This is followed by a list of places the party visited, some of which feature in the next journal: Anuradhapura (21 May); Mount Lavinia (28 May); Galle (4 June); Singapore (11 June); at sea, China Sea (18 June); Keelung and overland Formosa (25 June); at sea, China Sea (2 July); Miyanoshita (9 July); Kofu (16 July); Yokohama (23 July); and at sea, North Pacific (30 July). There is a sheet containing notes and a sketch in the inside pocket. A note on the front cover indicates that the account is a continuation of an earlier volume (not present in this collection). |
