Content and context

Includes 81 letters from the archives of the Baumgärtner family of Nuremburg, the majority to Hieronymus Baumgärtner the elder (d. 1564). With one exception the letters are from those with surnames beginning M to W. Also including 28 letters of a miscellaneous character, about half being addressed to secular rulers or authorities, including members of the Lichtenberg family, and members of the ruling house of Saxony.

Collection includes one printed item: Des XX Psalm Auslegung inn Reim ... durch D. J. Jonam, Wittenberg, 1546, unbound (with cancelled stamp of the Royal Library, Berlin).

Purchased of T. and W. Boone of London, booksellers, 5 May 1870.
