Francisco Antonio de Fuentès y Guzmàn (1643-1700), historian and poet, was born in Santiago, Guatemala.
The first part of the History of Guatemala written in 1690 by Francisco Antonio de Fuentès y Guzmàn and dedicated to Charles II of Spain, 526 folios. The work is divided into a dedication (fo. iv), a preface (fo. 1v), sixteen books of text (fo.7) and a summary of contents (fo. 518). On fo. 487v is a rough plan of the town of Tecpan de Galeana, Mexico, with rough drawings of buildings. On a fly-leaf is the name 'J. M. Bolio M. 1916', and on fo. i is the following note: 'The concluding two parts of this History of Guatemala I could not discover by 'the most diligent search' in Spain, Mr Waldeck may perhaps be more successful in Guatemala, Juarros refers to a very interesting chapter of Fuentes relating to the Jewish origin of the Tulticas who colonised Guatemala which nowhere occurs in the present Volume K'.
