Content and context

Thomas Man (1655-1690) was born at Helmsley, the son of Thomas Man, vicar of Northallerton, Yorkshire. He was admitted pensioner of Jesus College, Cambridge, on 12 June 1671, and matriculated in 1672 (B.A., 1675; M.A., 1678; M.D., 1687). He was Rustat Scholar, 1672, and a Fellow of Jesus, 1676-1690, and was incorporated at Oxford, 1681. He was ordained priest in 1674. Man resided continuously as a Fellow, and apparently did not practice medicine. He was buried at Wollaton, Nottinghamshire, on 24 Sep. 1690.

Cambridge medical diploma granted to Thomas Man, 1681, in Latin, 22 folios: (fo. 4) letter from B. Benham to C. Sayle, 7 July 1917; (fo. 5) list of Cambridge medical degree diplomas in the British Museum; (fo. 6) particulars of the career of Thomas Man, in the hand of A. Gray, Master of Jesus; (fo. 7) diploma granted by the University of Cambridge to T. Man of Jesus College, 2 June 1681; (fo. 8) blank. Inside the front cover is the bookplate of Sir William Osler, Bart, with the number '7538'.
