Demetrius Moschus' background is not known.

Philostratus (c. 171-245) was a Greek biographer and sophist. He was born in Lemnos, where he lived before spending time in Athens and Rome. He wrote the 'Life of Apollonius of Tyana', a philosopher, and the 'Lives of the Sophists'.

Translation into Italian, 160 folios: (fo. 1) note of gift by the donor; (fo. 2v) autograph dedication to Isabella d'Este Marchesa di Mantua by Mario Equicola; (fo. 3) text.

Attached to fo. 1 is a note on the manuscript by Walter Sneyd. Sneyd's bookplate appears inside the front cover, with a note in the hand of Charles Fairfax Murray, 'Lot 615 in the sale of Dec. 16-19 1903'.

The volume was presented to Isabella d'Este by Mario Equicola. It has also been owned by Walter Sneyd. Presented to the Library by Charles Fairfax Murray, 1917.
