Content and context

Antonio Maria Graziani (1537-1611), author of a history of the Cyprian war of 1570-1571.

Giovanni Francesco Commendone (1524-1584), papal nuncio and cardinal.

Written in a French hand, 356 folios: (fo. 11) title; (fo. 12) text in four books; (fo. 345) index. The biography provides historical details about the period and includes an account of Cardinal Commendone's arrival in England. This copy is probably transcribed from the printed edition.

MS.Add.4518 was formerly no. 95 in the collection of G.I.T. Libri. It was purchased in 1859 by Sir Thomas Phillipps, Bart, in whose library it was no. 16330, and was sold at Sotheby's in 1878. Purchased by the Library in 1910.
