Content and context

Thomas Harwood (1767-1842), author, was born at Shepperton, Middlesex, on 18 May 1767, and attended Eton and University College, Oxford. He was ordained deacon in 1789, and that year became a sizar at Emmanuel College, Cambridge (B.D., 1811; D.D., 1822). Harwood was headmaster of Lichfield Grammar School, 1791-1813. He became perpetual curate of Hammerwich, near Lichfield, in 1800, and was rector of Stawley, Somerset, 1814-1819. He was presented to the chapelry of Burntwood in 1828. Harwood was a Fellow of the Royal Society. His published works include Alumni Etonenses (1797) and a History of Lichfield (1806). He died at Lichfield on 23 December 1842.
