William E. Fiott, son of John Fiott, London merchant (d. 1797), and brother of John Lee, né Fiott (1783-1866), lawyer and antiquary.
A series of commonplace books entitled 'Notions', containing numbered paragraphs on current affairs, the majority appearing to be extracts from speeches in Parliament. The collection includes volumes 1, 3-10, 13-18, 20-23 and 25. Each volume has a list of contents. In MSS.Add.4381-4383 many of the paragraphs are dated and the speaker's name is occasionally pencilled in.
Lying in MS.Add.4397 is a visiting card of Wm. Ed. Fiott. This identifies the writer as the brother of John Lee (formerly Fiott), of Hartwell, with some of whose books the volumes were received.
Presented by W. Aldis Wright, 1906.
