Content and context

James Hannott (or Hannot) was ordained pastor of the Congregational Church, Great Yarmouth, on 11 June 1688, and held this office until his death in 1704 (see Norfolk Record Society publications, Vol. XXII, pp. 36-37).

'The straite gate and narrow way...to which is added The Lord's voice to the citty: being the substance of 14 sermons preached by Mr. James Hannott. Transcribed 1713', 137 folios: eight sermons on Matt. vii.14, dated 11 April 1697, followed by six on Mic. vi.9, dated 2 November 1701. Pasted inside the front cover is a note of the early nineteenth century: 'Third Pastor of the Old Meeting, the Rev. James Hannat, born in this Town. Chosen in Jany. 1, 1687, died June 7, 1704'. On fo. 1: 'Cusande Davie 1836'; on fo ii: 'Mary Davie her book 1726/27'.
