Content and context

Henry Bradshaw (1831-1886) was born in London on 2 February 1831. He attended Eton, before entering King's College, Cambridge, in 1850 (B.A, 1854; M.A., 1857), where he was Fellow, 1853-1856, and Dean, 1857-1858 and 1863-1865. In 1856 he became Assistant Master at St Columba's College, near Dublin. Thereafter, he joined Cambridge University Library, where he was Assistant, 1856-1858, and Superintendent of Manuscripts, 1859-1867. He carried out the reform of the Department of Manuscripts, and served as University Librarian, 1867-1886. Bradshaw died on 11 February 1886.

MS Add.4321 Culemann collection. A classified index of the fifteenth-century books in the Culemann collection sold by Sotheby's in February 1870, compiled by Henry Bradshaw, and arranged chronologically under countries, towns and printers. There are additions and many pencil notes on the versos.
