Content and context

John Hacket (1592-1670) was born in London on 1 September 1592, and educated at Westminster and Trinity College, Cambridge. He became Chaplain to James I in 1623, and that year was made a Prebendary of Lincoln Cathedral. He became the incumbent of St Andrew's, Holburn, and of Cheam, Surrey, in 1624, and was made Archdeacon of Bedford in 1631. He was Bishop of Coventry and Lichfield, 1661-1670. Hacket died on 28 October 1670, bequeathing his books to Cambridge University Library.

A list of books in the bequest of Bishop Hacket not in Cambridge University Library, 8 folios. The list is arranged according to size and binding, and is written in four or five hands. It is headed in the second (main) hand 'The Bookes not in the Library', to which the first hand has added, 'Of Cambr'.
