In his dedication Sherwin refers to the fact that he has waited upon Sir James, Earl of Derby. Further information about his background is not known

The volume includes the following: (fo. i) quotation from Cicero, De oratore; (fo. ii) dedication 'To the right honourable James Earl of Derby, Lord of Man and the Isles'; (fo. iii) prefatory letter to the Earl of Derby; (fo. iv) title; (fo. v) dedicatory letter to Dorothy, Countess of Burlington; (fo. 1) text; (fo. 26) postscript addressed to the same countess. Fo. 29 and most of the versos are blank.
